چکیده

Longwave oscillatory Marangoni convection in a planar binary liquid layer is studied. Finite-amplitude regimes with perturbations of temperature and solute concentration of order unity are considered. Both thermocapillary and solutocapillary effects are taken into account. Oneand two-dimensional patterns on a rhombic lattice are studied and their stability to the perturbations which do not necessarily belong to the lattice is analyzed. In the framework of the two-dimensional problem, traveling rolls are stable, whereas for a full three-dimensional problem alternating rolls are selected.

Oscillatory long-wave Marangoni convection in a layer of a binary liquid: hexagonal patterns.

We consider a long-wave oscillatory Marangoni convection in a layer of a binary liquid in the presence of the Soret effect. A weakly nonlinear analysis is carried out on a hexagonal lattice. It is shown that the derived set of cubic amplitude equations is degenerate. A three-parameter family of asynchronous hexagons (AH), representing a superposition of three standing waves with the amplitudes ...

Marangoni instability of a heated liquid layer in the presence of a soluble surfactant Oscillatory mode for small Lewis number

We consider the influence of adsorption kinetics on a longwave oscillatory instability in a layer of a binary liquid heated from below. It is shown that an advection of the adsorbed surfactant leads to a strong stabilization of the mode. Qualitative explanation of the numerical results is provided.

Oscillatory Marangoni convection in binary mixtures in square and nearly square containers

Three-dimensional simulations of oscillatory convection in binary mixtures driven by the Marangoni effect have been performed. The upper surface of the fluid is heated by a constant heat flux while the bottom is maintained at a constant temperature. Surface deflection is ignored. Oscillations are the result of concentration-induced changes in the surface tension due to the presence of an anomal...

The Hysteresis Phenomena of Flow Patterns due to Thermal and Solutal Marangoni Convections in a Liquid Bridge under Zero Gravity

The floating zone (FZ) method is one of the growth techniques used to grow single crystal materials. FZ growth is achieved in a containerless environment (without a crucible) by the movement of a molten zone of a solid rod, which forms a free-standing liquid bridge between two solid sections. However, the surface tension along the free surface of the molten zone varies due to temperature and co...
